Messy hair, don't care

Doing one's hair can sometimes be a little but of a hassle (not to mention an arm workout), but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do ;). So to have 2 hairstyles for the price and effort of one is a bonus ! I like to curl my hair with a straightener for tighter and more voluminous curls, then sleep on it for looser and relaxed waves. I find that with a straightener, my hair holds its curl overnight a lot better. Although a little extra hairspray also wouldn't hurt. :P

Green Smoothies

HeyHey!
how is everybody ? For the month of July, I've been trying to incorporate green smoothies into my diet. I prep what I can the night before (aka wash the greens and wash+wash fruit that won't ozidize overnight). That way I only have to wake up about 15 mins earlier than usual to finish the remaining fruit and blend everything together. I find that this makes it harder to skip...hey!  a girl's gotta get her beauty sleep =P.  At the beginning, I followed simplegreensmoothie's recipes to figure out what I liked and didn't like. After getting a feel for it....you can make up your own !
This was the one I had this morning -- blueberry, banana, avocado, spinach and soy milk. Paired with toast and nutella, this morning was bliss. :)
Have you gone green yet?

Tangerines and Tulips

Bonjour! Comment ca va?
Today was horrendously hot outside, but since I was working inside all day, decided to throw on a comfy knit with a pair of loose floral shorts to seal the deal. I'm loving the baggy top + loose bottoms combo because I frankly can't be bothered with tight clothing in the summer haha.

FOTD:
Eyeliner: MUFE Aqua Eyes - 01
Mascara: Maybelline Colossal
Foundation: Marcelle Hydra-C Radiance + Lancome Renergie Lift Makeup

After falling in love with the tv series, my friend kindly lent me the first book. It's long, but I'm working through it!!

home cooked meal ♡

Evening dolls!
My bf was pretty busy with work for the past little while so this weekend, I went over to my bf's house and we just chilled. One of the things we really like to do together is cook. We love to try out new recipes,  new combinations and new culinary techniques!  Sounds a little dorky haha, but you gotta do what makes you happy right? ; P
The entree on the menu was a Deconstructed Hot Pot Bibimbap.
A rice base with assorted veggies (onions,  carrots, cucumber and asparagus) topped with lamb (we wanted really thin slices so we opted for hot pot lamb).  Just for kicks it was served with a side of gouda.  Delish !

Inebrya/Ice Cream - Super Light Natural Super Platinum

Hello dolls, hope you're having a good (or at least bearable) mid-week.  I was instagramming (@janmychan) the below photo when I realized that I had forgotten about my hair dye post. So without further ado, here it is!
This is my current hair colour in all it's glory, outdoors. I always like to go a few shades lighter for the summer to liven and brighten up my complexion.  The shade that I was used was (as you can guess by the title) Super Light Natural Super Platinum by the brand Ice Cream.  I picked mine up at shoppers for under $10.
It seems a little scary because (at least according to the brand), it is a shade 11.  But teamed up with a 30 vol cream developer, it manages to force my stubborn dark hair to change colours.  I've dyed my hair with Ice Cream dyes for the past 4 years, and they never fail to impress me.  Note: my hair has been previously dyed multiple times.

Gorgeous packaging that always makes me come back for more!

The dye itself comes out quite bright in colour, but once you mix it with the developer (below) you can see that it becomes a very pale yellow.  The recommended dye:developer ratio is 1:1, but I usually do a little more developer because I have such thick hair.

Prepped with gloves, it's APPLICATION TIME!  I found what works best for me is:
1. Apply to roots/re-growth area and wait about 20-25 minutes.
2. Then mix another batch of hair dye (it will lose its efficacy when it becomes exposed to long to air) and apply to ROOTS + ENDS and wait another 45 minutes.

I know that it's way longer than the recommended time, but my hair needs a little urging before it wants to take up the dye, and the extended time frame allows the dye to "marinate" and work its magic.

What colour's your 'do lately?

A state of suspense

My dabble into photography...

Sunday, 30 June 2013

Woo Sunday Funday has arrived! My casual outfit to hang out with friends for the long weekend. Although not the most weather appropriate, a little leather never hurt anybody ;P
Ever since I moved back to parents' house for the summer, I am finding all these old clothes that I have forgotten about. One being this cute knit sweater with a leather panel in the front from ASOS I got ages ago.  Tbh the leather doesn't fall in the most flattering of ways, but I can't help it --- the knit/leather combination really works for me.

Leather and Knit sweater - ASOS (old)
Shorts - H&M
Suede booties - F21 (surprisingly comfy!)

Green Plaid

Funny story: as I was shooting, grandma and grandpa were driving past in a car, and they noticeably slowed down to give me a (judging?) look haha

Anyhooo, this look sorta reminds me of middle school, when I used to tie my sweaters around my waist all the time. Convenience > fashion back then.

Haha plaid shirt a little wrinkly from being tied around my waist all day.

Banh Mi Boys

Happy Tuesday everybody!
This past weekend, el BF and I wandered over to Banh Mi Boys. I had heard really good things about it so I  was pretty excited about going. Too bad we both love to eat all day long, so by the time we got there, we weren't terribly hungry (which was a shame !!).  Hence us trying the just one sub: Kalbi Beef Sub. It was marinated short ribs with a spicy sauce to boot.  The sub was super spicy, despite me asking for "2 out of 10 on a spicy scale". Not quite sure if the chef just ignored my request or not...=P

Gratuitous foodie shot.

The sub was super stuffed with short ribs! TOO GOOD!

Candles of the Moment

Helloo!
I am not a huge candle person, but I do like to light one once in a while when I'm enjoying a book or relaxing  through my skin care routine.  The turnover rate for my candles is pretty low because of my infrequent use, but here are my current favs!
Marseille Cassis Scented Soy Candle || B&BW Moonlight Path || B&BW Fresh Cotton || Anon Cappucino Candle

The packing is gorgeous, with its pink foiled details atop the black background. This was a gift from my friends for my birthday a while back, but I believe you can get this at Chapters.  It has a lemon-y scent, with some jasmine undertones.

I envision Moonlight Path would smell exactly like a stroll through a garden. It's extremely light and relaxes, and this is most likely the one I grab when I'm getting ready to read.  Summer project: Moby Dick and Brave New World.

Fresh Cotton is by far my favourite because of my affinity for anything that smells like laundry. The fresh and clean scent refreshes me and makes me think of large white sheets hung up to dry, fluttering in the wind.  It invokes a carefree mindset.  Once I am done this small size, I'm definitely picking up the bigger size.

I cannot for the life of me remember where I picked this bad boy up, but am I glad I did. It smells EXACTLY like a cappucino. NO JOKE! It is delish!  It always kicks my caffeine addiction into overdrive though...=3

Sad the weekend is over,

Hello my lovelies!
Been trying to change up my style lately, and breaking out of my comfort zone to switch things up. Spotlight: head accessories. I have never been a fan of hats, headbands, etcetc...because a) I didn't think they look good on me, and b) I like to leave my hair down on a daily.
BUT, I've decided that I'm done with playing safe.  One trend I've been really digging is the cute tied headband.  A lot of my favourite youtubers have been sporting it: Sarah Hawkinson wears them a lot, and SLOABN did a DIY recently.

I did a slightly more hipster look because of my glasses haha but on my lazy days, this is a really great hassle-free option.  Helped me stay chic through work + rain.  I also have extremely stubborn baby hairs and flyaways, and the bandana keeps everything in place.

 So easy and fun!

Forgot about these crystal earrings I got on a trip to Maine Islands, Vancouver.  There was this little boutique that sold hand made jewelry and I just couldn't leave without this pair of earrings.

What 'do have you been doing lately?

Convocation Jitters

IT IS TIME! My convocation is just around the corner (ahhh!! it still hasn't settled in that I will be done with undergrad....FOREVER).  Of course I want to look amazing for the ceremony, thus I am hitting the stores again in a hunt for the perfect dress.  But all successful conquests require adequate preparation beforehand, so online browsing is a must.

The colour is funky and unique, and the cutouts are gorgeous.

You can never go wrong with a classic A-line shape. It's timeless, and the mint colour is perfect for a spring convocation.

Club Monaco: Luna Dress
The colour is to die for, and the cut-outs are edgy yet elegant.  Again, another classic A-line silhouette.

I am loving anything with an open back, and this dress has a sexy yet chic cut-out in the back for a more daring look.

What will you be wearing?
